Julian Assange support badges pins buttons say Fuck yeah!
Julian Assange support badges pins buttons say Fuck yeah!
Bit hard to top that intro. Well maybe JA can:
Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence and thereby eventually lose all ability to defend ourselves and those we love. In a modern economy it is impossible to seal oneself off from injustice.
If we have brains or courage, then we are blessed and called on not to frit these qualities away, standing agape at the ideas of others, winning pissing contests, improving the efficiencies of the neocorporate state, or immersing ourselves in obscuranta, but rather to prove the vigor of our talents against the strongest opponents of love we can find.
If we can only live once, then let it be a daring adventure that draws on all our powers. Let it be with similar types whose hearts and heads we may be proud of. Let our grandchildren delight to find the start of our stories in their ears but the endings all around in their wandering eyes.
Via Daniel Mathews blog. A must read speech from Melbournes July 1 Rally in support of Julian. Or watch the video
Well, let that permeate your being whist contemplating these designs and the ways you can make/are making a difference!

Julian Assange: proving the "vigor of [his] talents against the strongest opponents of love we can find" |
Theyre designed as badges, but are perfect for a whole range of applications from stickers to Ts (ask me for larger files) to coffee mugs. The second image of each pair gives you that extra area that folds over the back of the badge. Theyre images Ive revisited and enlarged so they are ready to print up to a maximum of 60mm, and also added the justice4assange.com link.

Julian Assange Wikileaks
Julian Assange Wikileaks
So I havent made my mind up about Wikileaks latest release. I believe Wikileaks is hugely important and yet I see some valid criticisms about the cables release. But thats ok, because you dont have to immediately have an opinion about things. At the moment I think the good outweighs the bad. If only because whenever a member of the government tries to use the argument "if youve done nothing wrong youve nothing to hide" we can reply "so you support wikileaks?"
But I reserve the right to change that opinion. In politics thats called flip-floppig and frowned upon. In science its just being sensible.
Nevertheless Ive seen a few interesting links around (mostly via reddit) that I would like to share.
1) The Internet Archives copy of Julian Assanges old blog
Assanges blog is only a few years old and makes interesting reading. My current favourite quote being:
Wed 03 Jan 2007 : Witnessing
Let it be with similar types whos hearts and heads we may be proud of. Let our grandchildren delight to find the start of our stories in their ears but the endings all around in their wandering eyes.
The whole universe or the structure that perceives it is a worthy opponent, but try as I may I can not escape the sound of suffering. Perhaps as an old man I will take great comfort in pottering around in a lab and gently talking to students in the summer evening and will accept suffering with insouciance. But not now; men in their prime, if they have convictions are tasked to act on them.
The first part of which hits home with a great deal of pain. I type this whilst people starve, or are tortured, or denied medical care and I do so little about it.
I find it interesting how, at least in my opinion, The Internets collective response to such a blog would have been cynicism, criticism and accusations of being emo and self-indulgent. When instead it is the thoughts of someone with the conviction to change the world.
2) A TED talk by Julian Assange on why we need Wikileaks.
Havent watched this yet, but Im currently downloading it for tomorrows commute.
3) Sarah Palin wants to hunt Assange like a terrorist.
Or at least according to the star. Shes a wonderful person.

Julian Assange 2 Years in the Embassy and the bit before — SunOrCell infographic
Julian Assange 2 Years in the Embassy and the bit before — SunOrCell infographic
2 years ago on June 19, Julian Assange sought asylum from political persecution in the Embassy of Ecuador, London.
This new infographic attempts to tell the story since that time, and to put that story in the context of the events leading up to that day.
Of course there is more depth and complexity to the story than can be portrayed in this "easy-to-view" format. A good place to start is the website justice4assange.com where youll find a new FAQ.
Theres also a great new site here, counting the UK taxpayer money wasted "guarding" the Ecuadorian embassy since 19 June 2012.

Theres also a link to download a jpg below if youd like to embed it in your blog or site. And HERE youll find a zip folder of 8xA3 greyscale pdfs for a home print of the entire infographic. They overlap so you can trim and overlay the ends of each panel when pasting up.

Donations
Projects like this take many late nights and even more cups of tea. Everyone is calling for donations these days. I dont have a donate button sitting here because my own new site is still under development - it gets pushed down the list with other more pressing solidarity projects.

Julian Assange masks for Mardi Gras and YOUR action
Julian Assange masks for Mardi Gras and YOUR action

You can make an effective visual statement with the masks especially with a group of people - the bigger the better of course. Coordinated movements or dance by the wearers would be certain to further enhance the impact.
For Mardi Gras, the masks will be professionally printed on corflute. The masks are also designed to be printed at A3 size, then glued to card and cut. The faces can then be attached to sticks to be held as in the example below. Of course you could cut eye holes in the masks, find other novel ways to attach or wear them or produce even larger images for extra effect.

The dashed line around the face gives the mask more definition and the cut-out imagery gives it a DIY feel... "you could easily be Bradley/Julian..." Its inspired by the masks used in the play, The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning. |

Julian Assange presents keynote speech at 19th International Symposium on Electronic Art in Sydney
Julian Assange presents keynote speech at 19th International Symposium on Electronic Art in Sydney
![]() |
Book your ticket: from 9am 20 MAY: be quick! |
Julian Assange will present a Special Keynote speech at the 19th International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA2013), presented by the Australian Network for Art and Technology (ANAT) at the University of Sydney on Thursday 13 June 2013 at 5.30pm.
The Wikileaks founder will address conference delegates and a small public audience via live video link from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.
Julian Assange has a unique insight into the futility, or otherwise, of resisting the incursion of the digital into every aspect of our lives.
In systems under constant and multiple pressures there will always be leaks. Wikileaks exists because of this, embracing the digital, exploiting the ubiquity of digitised information: Resistance is Fertile.
Artists creatively investigate the possibilities and push the limits of new technologies, helping us to imaginatively experience and critically reflect on their implications for life in the 21st century.
The ISEA2013 program explores the ways art and new technologies are used in the service of power, protest and resistance.
